AEGIS™ Automatic Fire Extinguishing Tape

Compact automatic fire suppression directly at the source of the risk.

The AEGIS™ automatic fire suppression tape is designed to automatically suppress a fire in its early stages. As soon as the temperature reaches the preset activation threshold, the tape activates automatically and releases the integrated fire suppressant.

Automatic fire suppression right where the risk arises

A fire in an electrical system can quickly spread from a minor defect. Therefore, especially in compact and enclosed spaces, it can be important to suppress a fire in its early stages as close to the source as possible.

The AEGIS™ Automatic Fire Suppression Tape offers a compact and fully automatic solution for this. The tape contains microcapsules filled with the fire-extinguishing agent 3M Novec™ 1230 (FK-5-1-12).

When the temperature reaches the preset activation threshold, the microcapsules open automatically. The extinguishing agent is then immediately released into the area where the temperature is rising.

This can cause a fire to start suppressed directly at the source of the risk, without requiring manual operation first.

Thanks to the variety of sizes, shapes, and designs available, the tape can be tailored to a wide range of installations and compact, enclosed spaces.

MOST IMPORTANT BENEFITS

Fully Automatic Activation

The tape activates automatically when the preset activation temperature is reached. This eliminates the need for manual operation to release the extinguishing agent.

Directly at the source of the risk

Thanks to its compact tape format, AEGIS™ can be applied close to electrical components and other potential ignition sources.

Integrated fire extinguishing agent

The microcapsules in the tape contain 3M Novec™ 1230 (FK-5-1-12). Upon activation, the fire suppressant is automatically released at the location where the temperature rise is detected.

Versatile

AEGIS™ is available in various sizes, models, and shapes, making it suitable for use in a wide range of installations and enclosed spaces.

Technical specifications

The AEGIS™ automatic fire-extinguishing tape consists of a compact tape that contains microcapsules containing fire suppressant are integrated.

Under normal conditions, the fire suppressant remains stored inside these microcapsules. When a predetermined activation temperature is reached locally, the microcapsules open automatically and the fire suppressant is released.

This results in a temperature-activated fire suppression system that does not require manual activation. Because the tape can be placed close to the potential source of ignition, the intervention takes place directly where a fire is starting.

Its compact design makes AEGIS™ particularly well-suited for applications where there is limited space available for conventional automatic fire suppression systems.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Detect. Activate. Automatically suppress.

The AEGIS™ Automatic Fire Suppression Tape is installed close to the potential source of fire or ignition.

When the temperature rises due to a malfunction or an incipient fire and reaches the preset activation threshold, the integrated microcapsules respond automatically.

The capsules open and release FK-5-1-12 fire extinguishing agent directly in the immediate vicinity of the heat source. This allows a fire in its early stages to be suppressed before it has a chance to spread further through the system.

The system operates automatically and requires no human intervention at the time of activation.

APPLICATIONS

Automatic protection in compact spaces

AEGIS™ was developed for locations where potential ignition sources are located in a small or enclosed space are located and where rapid, automatic intervention is needed.

By applying the tape directly to the area at risk, fire suppression can occur at the location where a critical temperature develops.

The exact method and the amount of tape required must be tailored to the specific space, installation, and the fire risk involved.

The various shapes and sizes available make it possible to tailor AEGIS™ to a wide range of applications, including:

  • Electrical Control Panels
  • Distribution Cabinets
  • Control Cabinets
  • Electronic equipment
  • Electrical Components
  • Small technical compartments
  • Machine and Equipment Enclosures
  • Compact, enclosed spaces
  • Compact, enclosed spaces
  • Facilities where local automatic fire suppression is desired

Part of a broader safety approach

The AEGIS™ automatic fire-extinguishing tape can be used as a a local automated response layer within a broader fire safety strategy.

Preventive measures such as proper electrical installation, inspection, and maintenance remain the foundation. If, despite these measures, localized overheating and a fire in its early stages do occur, AEGIS™ offers an additional option for automatic intervention.

Because the tape directly at the potential source of inflammation Since it is installed and operates via temperature activation, no human presence is required to activate the system.

AEGIS™ is therefore particularly useful as supplemental protection in hard-to-reach areas and in compact, enclosed spaces where a small fire might otherwise continue to spread unnoticed.

For example, AEGIS™ adds local, automatic fire suppression in addition to a facility's existing preventive and fire safety measures.
