The Schneider Containment Generation 4 is more than just a traditional lithium-ion storage cabinet. The system combines early detection, automatic intervention, fire suppression, and containment into a single, integrated safety solution.
Advanced off-gas sensors continuously monitor for gases that may be released during the initial phase of battery degradation. This allows anomalies to be detected even before smoke or visible flames appear.
When the system detects a risk, various safety measures can be automatically activated. The goal is to stabilize the situation as early as possible and limit further escalation.

Four layers of security inside a single system
1. Detection
The integrated off-gas detection system continuously monitors for early chemical signs of a faulty lithium-ion battery cell. This allows a potential malfunction to be detected earlier than with systems that respond only to temperature, smoke, or fire.
2. Intervene
When anomalies are detected, the system responds automatically. Depending on the selected configuration, ventilation, shut-off, and other safety functions, among others, may be activated.
3. Control
Should an incident nevertheless escalate, the containment system is designed to keep heat, flames, pressure, and hazardous substances confined within the enclosure as much as possible.
4. Protect
The combination of detection, intervention, containment, and fire suppression is designed to protect people, equipment, and the surrounding environment.
